WEIGHT OF DARKNESS

Client: Erased Tapes records

Year: 2010

What: Album cover

It's always great to work with Ólafur and this was no exception. For this album he found inspiration in an opening scene from the film Werckmeister Harmonies. In the opening scene a man explains in a very poetic way the processes of a solar eclipse. Which in this case is a metaphor for good vs evil, when light defeats darkness in the end.

I worked from this idea and created a pictorial translation of the scene. The album cover itself is dark and moody. But when you take out the booklet and cd you start to see the light coming through. The booklet is light at the top but turns darker towards the bottom. When you turn the booklet around the process is inverted, it starts dark and in the end light defeats darkness.
